Inaugural film festival will include art, live music, four days of film, guest speakers, theatrical performance and interactive technology.
Albuquerque, NM – Film for Change today announced the Albuquerque Film Festival scheduled for August 6 to August 9, 2009. With support from the City of Albuquerque, the festival will be centered around the historic Kimo Theater in downtown Albuquerque with additional events and screenings scheduled for other nearby venues. Confirmed guests include actors Fairuza Balk (Almost Famous), Giancarlo Esposito (The Usual Suspects), Luce Rains (No Country for Old Men), director Paul Solet (Grace) and master of ceremonies for the Festival Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad). Also slated to join panels at the festival are Marvel Director of Games Todd Jefferson and Academy Award-winning VFX artist Ziad Seirafi. Guest of honor Dennis Hopper will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award before a special screening of Easy Rider on August 8.
“We have designed the Albuquerque Film Festival to take advantage of the diverse assets of Albuquerque and its people. The festival will offer art, music, local and national films and, of course, great parties all in Albuquerque’s vibrant downtown. Our vision, ultimately, is that the Albuquerque Film Festival will become a springboard to celebrate and launch the tremendous talent of Albuquerque natives,” said Film for Change and Albuquerque Film Festival founder Rich Henrich. “Especially as the film industry in Albuquerque blossoms, this festival will also serve as a forum for the people of Albuquerque to interact with the creative talent behind both the local and national arts.”
The festival will open on August 6 with a special screening of Baraka with members of the creative team Alton Walpole, David Aubrey and composer Michael Stearns on hand for a Q & A following the screening. The festival will close August 9 with a showing of Gospel Hill introduced by director and actor Giancarlo Esposito. The film also stars Danny Glover, Angela Basset and Samuel L. Jackson. Currently slated panels and talks include; technology and the arts; comics, video games and movies, NM film locations, NM post production, green filmmaking, and the art of the film business. Giancarlo Esposito will also hold an acting worshop on Saturday at The Cell. Additional films and panels will be announced shortly. Events will be held in the historic Kimo Theater, The Cell and The Lobo.

Special screening will showcase the best films from Albuquerque’s 48 Hour Film Project.
Albuquerque, NM – Film for Change today announced the Albuquerque Film Festival on August 5 will
host a highlight showing of the best 48 Hour films made in New Mexico. The thirteen films to be screened
as a part of the Festival represent more than 30 shorts made by New Mexicans between July 10 and July
12. All films were completed from concept to editing in less than two days.
Regarding the partnership, Rich Henrich Director of the Albuquerque Film Festival said, “We are excited
to have 48 Hour Film Project on board. The filmmakers involved with this program are some of the most
intrepid and creative you’ll find around the country. Their presence and involvement at the Festival will be
a great asset for us and a wonderful opportunity for them to bring their films to a whole new audience.”
The screening is scheduled for the National Hispanic Cultural Center on August 5 at 7 pm with an awards
ceremony and reception to follow. Tickets for the reception are $10 and the location will be announced
shortly. Festival passes are available at 102 Gold St. in downtown Albuquerque.

Duke City Shootout to return in 2010 as featured event at the second annual Albuquerque Film Festival.
Albuquerque, NM – Film for Change today announced that the Albuquerque Film Festival will partner
with the Duke City Shootout in 2010 for the Shootout’s 10th Anniversary. After a year’s restructuring
period, the Shootout will be scheduled to coincide with the Albuquerque Film Festival next year. To
celebrate the partnership, the Albuquerque Film Festival will screen the best films made at previous Duke
City Shootouts at a special showing on August 6 at 5:30 pm at the historic KiMo Theater.
Regarding the new partnership, Albuquerque Film Festival Director Rich Henrich said, “We are delighted
to join the Duke City Shootout as they prepare to celebrate a decade in film. The Shootout is rightly a
major point of pride in the Albuquerque film community and we couldn’t imagine our Festival without it.”

Albuquerque, NM – Film for Change today announced that famed actor and writer Dennis Hopper will
receive the Lifetime Achievement at the Albuquerque Film Festival on August 8. The award presentation
will lead up to a showing of Hopper’s classic Easy Rider on the film’s 40th anniversary.
Mr. Hopper’s film career spans five decades and includes over 100 performances in film and television
from Apocalypse Now to Speed. In 1969, Easy Rider showcased Mr. Hopper’s talents as a writer and
director and helped to define the freewheeling 1960’s. The film also featured the wide-open New Mexican
roads and vistas that inspired Mr. Hopper to return time and again to the Land of Enchantment. Mr. Hopper
is currently shooting season 2 of the Starz television show Crash.
Regarding Mr. Hopper, Film for Change founder Rick Henrich said, “We are honored to present the
Lifetime Achievement Award to Dennis Hopper. Mr. Hopper is a film luminary who has exemplified the
merits of independent and thoughtful film for decades.”

Local pioneers set to promote art in downtown Albuquerque.
Albuquerque, NM – Film for Change today announced the Albuquerque Film Festival will support 516
Arts and Land/Art’s initiatives in public and green programs. The 516 Gallery will also serve as one of the
Festival’s cooperating galleries during the Festival from August 6 to 9.
Regarding 516 Land/Art, Albuquerque Film Festival Director Rich Henrich said, “I first envisioned this
Festival as a joint project of art and filmmaking. In joining 516 Land/Art we not only tap into the
Albuquerque arts community, but we are also proud to help their green programming and cultural
